"For I am ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand. I have fought a good fight. I have finished my course, I have kept the faith. Henceforth, there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give that day; and not to me only, but unto all that love His appearing." 2 Timothy 4:6-8. Sister Marietta (Roberson) Williams was born in Riley, Louisiana on September 23, 1922. She departed this life on March 22, 2013. She was born to the union of the late Rev. Matthew J. and the late Adella Phillips Roberson. She accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior at an early age and was baptized at New Hope Baptist Church in Riley, La. She completed her education in the East Feliciana Parish School System before the start of WWII. In 1996, she attended and graduated from the Fourth District Congress of Christian Education, which she was so proud of. At the start of WWII, she met Robert Williams, Sr. (who served overseas for three years through the duration of the war). Upon his return, they were married in 1946 and to this union two children were born, Robert, Jr. and Henrietta. Together they joined the Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church, later the Gloryland Baptist, and finally the Israelite Missionary Baptist Church, where she was a member of the Deaconess Board. She was a very active member up to the time of her illness. She was a devoted wife, loving mother and caring sister. She worked as a short order cook and baker for many years while taking care of her family. She loved spending time with her family, helping and caring for others. She also enjoyed sewing, cooking and fishing. And really enjoyed attending church and participating in various church activities. Both she and her husband attended Sunday School regularly up until the time of her illness, and they both read their Bibles daily. She leaves to cherish her memory a devoted daughter, Henrietta Williams, and son, Robert Williams, Jr. (Aerice) of Baton Rouge, La.; three grandsons, Robert Cantrail Williams of Baton Rouge, Ralph Benjamin Williams (Regina) of Prairieville, and Randall Scott Williams of Baton Rouge; two great grandchildren, Sade Jean Williams and Justin Ralph Williams of Prairieville; sister-in-law, Martha (Felton) Robertson of Detroit, Michigan, and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Robert Williams, Sr.; her parents, Rev. Matthew J. and Adella Roberson; three brothers, Nathaniel, Felton and Woodrow Roberson; five sister, Dorothea (Williams), Thelma (Primus), Annie Mae Roberson, Olivia (Smith) and Beatrice (Johnson).
