Marion M."Bill"Swinney

Marion M. "Bill" Swinney Jr. passed away Sunday, Sept. 20., 2009, at age 82. Mr. Swinney was born in Vinton, one of seven children of Marion M. Swinney Sr. and Bessie McClendon Swinney. He was a sergeant in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II and served in the Pacific theater. He attended the LSU School of Engineering and worked for Kaiser Aluminum in Baton Rouge until retirement in 1985. He was preceded in death by his sister, Joyce Dillen, and is survived by his loving family: wife, Gloria Foto Swinney; three children, Mark, Shawn and Mary Burk; two grandchildren, Katherine and Bradley Burk; brothers, John L. and Raymond; and sisters, Dora, Betty Jean and JoAnn. It has been said that the name Swinney means "peaceful." If this is the case, Bill Swinney personified this word. Visitation at Rabenhorst Funeral Home, 825 Government St., on Thursday, Sept. 24, was from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. A graveside service will be conducted at Port Hudson National Cemetery on Friday, Sept. 25, at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Alzheimer's Associationfor Research, 225 N.
