Marjorie Sue Griffith

Marjorie Sue Griffith was born March 13, 1945 in Port Arthur, Texas. She died peacefully at home after a long illness on Tuesday, December 28, 2021. She was preceded in death by her parents, Willis and Marjorie Honeycutt. She is survived by her husband of 43 years, Dr. Bryan Griffith; her sons Derek Myers, wife Rachel, and grandson Greyson; and Reggie Griffith, wife Michelle and grandsons Ty, Reid, Dalton and granddaughter Reagan; her older sisters, Edith Barclay and husband William "Cooter" Barclay; and Dottie Schulz and husband Gene Schulz; nieces Kelly and Lori Barclay, Ellen Schulz, and Meredith Hise. She will be missed dearly and greatly by all.

Sue graduated from Lamar University, where to her continued embarrassment, she was homecoming queen. She was a teacher, interior designer, art broker, antique dealer, aerobics instructor, an artist, a mother, and a wife. She had impeccable taste and style and great judgement. She was the best partner and friend a husband could ever want.

Her life was altered and shortened by multiple strokes over the last twenty-three years, but she never quit fighting. Her last major stroke left her with an expressive aphagia (she couldn't find the words to say what she wanted to say). As she improved from that stroke, the first words she could find were “no” and “shut up,” which continued to demonstrate her resolve and spirit. She took Pilates and painted until near the end of her life.

We would like to thank the staff on the orthopedic floor at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center for the excellent care she received in two recent one-week stays. We are indebted to her caregivers, Norma Matos, Freida Jones, Carla Brown and Kevin Chambers who took such great care of Sue and allowed us to keep her at home the last years. We would also like to thank our friend Judy Powers who regularly visited Sue over the years while Sue was homebound. Her visits brought Sue much joy and comfort.

Services will be held at St. Alban’s Episcopal Chapel on the LSU campus on January 7, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers or gifts, please make a donation to St. Alban’s Chapel.
