Born with a heart for service and a steadfast dedication to caring for others, Marla spent her entire life as a devoted wife, mother, and healthcare provider. After graduating from pharmacy school in Monroe, Louisiana, in 1985, she began her career at K&B Drugs, which was later acquired by Rite Aid, where she was a pharmacy district manager in the Baton Rouge area. Her loyalty and passion became legendary among those who knew her.
Marla later fulfilled a lifelong dream by opening Bocage Pharmacy Centre in Baton Rouge. As its owner and pharmacist, she poured her whole heart into her work. She knew her patients by name, celebrated their milestones, and supported them through their hardest days. Her commitment to their well being was unwavering, and she truly dedicated her life to serving her community with compassion, expertise, and kindness.
Marla was a loving wife to Marc Gibbens, her husband of 41 years, and a devoted mother to her sons, Garrett and Kyle, as well as her infant son, Grant, who preceded her in death. She was also a wonderful sister, steady and warm, always ready with support, humor, and love.
Her greatest joy was her family, and she embraced her role as “LaLa” with boundless affection and pride. She leaves behind four beloved grandchildren, Luke, Grant, Charlotte, and Eloise, who were the light of her life. Her happiest moments were often found at the beach, her favorite place to unplug, breathe, and truly relax.
Marla is preceded in death by her parents, Lucien DeLouise and Gertrude Leggio DeLouise; her brother, Mark DeLouise; and her infant son, Grant Gibbens.
Marla’s legacy is one of devotion to her family, her patients, her profession, and the countless lives she touched with her generosity and care. She will be remembered for her strength, her heart, and the way she made everyone around her feel seen and cared for. She will be profoundly missed and forever loved.
