Marlene was born on September 28, 1934, to Edgar and Bella LeBlanc Bergeron in Napoleonville, Louisiana. She graduated from Assumption High School and married the love of her life, Rene Andre Caballero, Sr., in 1955. Marlene was a resident of Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
Widowed at 43, Marlene faced the tremendous responsibility of raising five children on her own. With strength, determination, and unconditional love, she worked to give them every opportunity to succeed. All five graduated from Redemptorist High School which provided them a Catholic education rooted in faith.
At 44, Marlene began a remarkable career in Property Management at LSU that continued until her retirement at 85. She loved her work and coworkers, and her dedication reflected the hardworking, dependable woman she was.
Marlene found her greatest joy in spending time with her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed reading, bird watching, and caring for her plants. Her Catholic faith guided her throughout her life. She spent countless hours praying for others, and her prayers, guidance, and example were among the greatest gifts she gave to her family and friends.
Momma was our rock, our teacher, and our leader. Generous with her time and love, she put her children’s needs and happiness ahead of her own always willing to help others. She taught us to persevere through adversity, remain faithful through life’s challenges, and cherish family. Though our hearts are broken we are grateful for the years we shared with her.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Edgar and Bella Bergeron; her beloved husband, Rene Andre Caballero, Sr.; her daughter, Lisa Caballero; her son, Chris Caballero; her sisters, Hazel Duet, Myrtle Capone, Gladys Graffeo, and Rita Warehime; and her brothers, Harris Bergeron, Mervin Bergeron, and Lindsey Bergeron.
