

Born December 29,1930 to Tal Macmurdo Larguier and Robert John Stone, Sr., she died at home Sunday August 14, 2016 at the age of 85. Martha is survived by her son Fred C. Frey III and his wife, Jan; daughter Jean Tucker Frey Rhodes and her husband, Craig; four grandchildren F. Charles Frey IV and his wife Ashley; Genevieve Frey Fields and her wife Gidget; Anna Caroline Frey and Martha Larguier Rhodes; four great-grandchildren, Major (Fred C., V) Frey, Mary Ann Caroline Frey, Jake (Jeffrey Jackson) Frey and John Henry Fields; her beloved friend and cousin Mary Louise Prudhomme; and numerous nieces and nephews. Martha is also survived by her two "puppy boys", Freddie Blue and Slim, who kept vigil by her beside for the last week of her life. She was predeceased by her husband of 64 years, Fred Charles Frey, Jr.; her parents; her brother Robert John Stone, Jr. and her sister Tal Macmurdo Stone Howell. Visitation will be on Wednesday, August 17, 2016 at St. James Episcopal Church, 205 N. 4th St., Baton Rouge, from 9:00 am until the Requiem Eucharist at 11:00 AM officiated by the Rev.Mary Ann Garrett. Inurnment will be in the church columbarium. A native of Baton Rouge, Martha was a graduate of Baton Rouge High School and the University of Mississippi with a degree in elementary education. She attended LSU where she pledged Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority. She was a second grade teacher at Bernard Terrace School in Baton Rouge from 1953-1959. Martha served as president of the Junior League of Baton Rouge in 1966-67. She also served on the Nominating Committee for Region V of the Association of Junior Leagues International. Martha, along with her husband Fred, developed Tigerland and Sharlo Townhomes in the 1970s. In 1985, she and Fred founded West Baton Rouge Development, which later became the West Baton Rouge Chamber of Commerce where she served as executive director. Martha and Fred were avid duck hunters for over 50 years. Their duck camp "Freyville" in Bayou Penchant was the site of many lively parties and wonderful memories for their friends and family. She was the queen of the duck camp and visitors came especially to see her while they merely tolerated Fred. She was a lover of all animals and was once described by her veterinarian as a miracle worker who could save any animal beyond saving. Martha saved the one surviving puppy from a litter of golden retrievers by tube feeding him every two hours. She named him Lonesome and he was her beloved companion for ten years. The Frey family is grateful for the loving care provided to Martha by Mildred Green, her dear friend and caregiver, and her hospice nurse, Jill Rehn.
