

Martha Louise Shellington Hess passed away surrounded by her family on October 30, 2023. She was a force of nature. Beloved by her friends and family, she was brilliant, kind, loving, and giving. She went to college at Louisiana State University and graduated with top honors as Order of the Coif at LSU Law School. Martha worked as Senate Counsel for the Senate Fiscal Division and Senate Finance Committee for the State of Louisiana until she retired in early 2023. Considered an expert and authority in her field of work, she was well-known and greatly respected along the halls of the Louisiana State Capitol. She will be eternally missed by her husband of over 45 years, Michael, her two daughters, Dorian (Wallace Adam) and Samantha, her canine children Beau, Bubbles, and Buffy, her grandpups Busby and Bunny, and grandkitten Pantera, as well as by her nieces and nephews Brandi (Todd), D’Shea, Ben (Jenny), Jacob (Rebecca), Jimmy (Bambi), Byron (Fong), David (Heather), Beth, Aaron (Yesica), Cynthia (Daniel), Gallen (Nadia), and Gabrielle (Matthew), her many great-nieces and nephews, Brandon (Nicky), Chase, Aiden, Meredith, Kayla, Alyssa, Jana, Caden and great-great-nephews and nieces, and treasured long-time friends Doug and Mary Jehle. She is preceded in death by her parents John and Edith Shellington as well as her three siblings, Charles, David, and Jacqueline, and nephew Daniel. Martha’s strength of will and set of standards were uncompromising. If she loved you, she would always love you, and we will always love her. A visitation will be held on Friday, November 3, 2023 from 5pm – 8pm at Cross of Calvary University Lutheran Church. 3235 Dalrymple Dr. Baton Rouge, LA 70808. Visitation will resume on Saturday, November 4, 2023 from 8am – 10am with a funeral service to begin at 10am at Cross of Calvary University Lutheran Church.
