Mary Helen Toussaint Hogan, a resident of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, peacefully passed away surrounded by family on September 3, 2024, at the age of 81. Mary Helen was born on October 10, 1942, in Torbert, Louisiana, to her parents, Lee Joseph and Mary Yvonne (Belone) Toussaint. Mary Helen retired from the teaching profession with 45 years of service teaching Mathematics: 12 years in Pointe Coupee Parish, 21 years in East Baton Rouge Parish, and 12 years in Wilkinson County, Mississippi. She was a devoted parishioner of St. Jude the Apostle Catholic Church for over 40 years and was an active member of the Ladies Auxillary Chapter until 2019.
Mary Helen loved spending time with her family and especially, her grandchildren, Emorie Roquemore and Liam Roquemore, who affectionately referred to her as “Nana.” She is survived by her children, Helon LaRoyce Hogan Sneed (Kendall), Evon LaRae Hogan Roquemore and Myron Lemoses Hogan; three children in love, Zelda Carter, Cheryl Jefferson, and Edwin Hogan; two sisters, Frances Toussaint Richard and Theresa Toussaint Grevious; two brothers, John Toussaint, Sr. (Thelma) and Ivy Toussaint Sr. (Linda); one brother-in-law, Billy Barnes; four god-children; Jerry Jerome Toussaint, Jody Trusclair, Claborine Zeno and Jalen Grevious; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leroy Lee (Coach) Hogan; her parents, Lee Joseph and Mary Yvonne Belone Toussaint; two sisters, Laura Lee Barnes and Shirley Mae Toussaint Lee; and one brother-in-law, Lionel Richard.
The family would like to thank Sunrise Assisted Living Facility (Jefferson Hwy), The Cardiology Institute of Baton Rouge, and Baton Rouge Home Health and Hospice for their exceptional care and support. Visitation will take place at St. Jude the Apostle Catholic Church, 9150 Highland Road, Baton Rouge, on Saturday, September 7, 2024, from 9:00 a.m. until services begin at 11:00 a.m. The burial will take place at Greenoaks Funeral Home Mausoleum and Memorial Park, 9595 Florida Blvd, Baton Rouge.
