Mary “Lena” Guerin was born to the late Archile and Ella Guerin in Ventress, Louisiana on March 21, 1924. Lena was christened in New Roads, Louisiana at St. Augustine Catholic Church at an early age and was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Baton Rouge, La. When her health failed, and was no longer able to attend services in person, she watched mass every Sunday on TV. Lena was unified in holy matrimony to Joseph H. Christophe, Sr. on January 18, 1940 and was married for 69 years, at the time of his death. To this union, 5 children were born. Lena was a loving housewife and mother. She loved flowers and gardening with her husband and together they planted a garden every year, until their health failed. She was a wonderful cook and was known for her sand tart cookies, praline candy, fruit cake cookies and many other treats. She had a sweet tooth and whenever you visited, she always had cookies and ice-cream sandwiches to share. Lena departed this earth on Monday, March 26, with family by her side. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph and son James Howard Sr. She leaves to cherish her memories: four sons Joseph “Lester” (Rosine) of Decatur, Al., John Sr. (Sandra) of Baton Rouge, La., Joseph, Jr. (LaTeshia) of Baton Rouge, La., Clifford (Marcella) of Houston, Tx.; sister-in-law Ella “Lala” Dunbar and brother-in-law Ewell “Buster” Netter; a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, god children, nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. Visitation will be held at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church on Tuesday, April 2, 2018 beginning at 10am. A memorial rosary will be said at 10:45am with Mass of Christian Burial following at 11am.
