Mary Alois Miller Meyer passed away peacefully on June 28, 2022 at the age of 97. Mary Alois was born in Florence, Kansas on March 21, 1925 to Ada Barnes Miller and O.J. Miller. She was a graduate of Central High School in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
While working for the Red Cross during World War II; Alois met Alton L. Meyer of New Orleans. They married on February 4, 1944. After the war, Mary Alois and Alton returned to New Orleans, Louisiana until January, 1969; when they moved to Norwalk, Connecticut and later to St. Louis, Missouri. In 1980, they retired to Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Mary Alois and Alton enjoyed traveling particularly with individual trips with each of their grandchildren along with annual trips to the U.S.S. West Virginia Veterans’ Association Reunion. Mary Alois was “one of a kind.” She never met a stranger and enjoyed her many friends including those from across the country. She was always well dressed with hair, nails and jewelry in place. She was a loyal member of P.E.O. for over 60 years.
She is survived by her three children, Thomas L. Meyer and wife, Eileen of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Nancy Meyer Levert and husband, Mark W. Levert of Baton Rouge, Louisiana and Mary Ellen Meyer Huston and husband, Gary Huston of Pensacola, Florida.
Mary Alois was a wonderful grandmother to her six grandchildren who lovingly called her “Goose” including Thomas A. Meyer of Baton Rouge, Louisiana Andrew Levert and wife Lee of Mobile, Alabama, Kyle Huston and wife Allie of Delray Beach, Florida, Megan Huston Knotts and husband Chris of Richmond, Kentucky, Katie Levert Darensbourg and husband, Daniel of Baton Rouge, Louisiana and Daniel Levert and wife, Lauren of Baton Rouge, Louisiana. She was also so proud of her seven great-grandchildren including Colton and Cade Knotts, Meyer and Marshall Levert, Hannah Huston, Emery Darensbourg and Olivia Levert. She is also survived by her beloved sister-in-law, Gayle B. Miller, nephew, Clark D. Miller, grand-niece, Molly G. Miller and grand- nephew, Collin Miller of Tulsa, Oklahoma.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her devoted husband Alton of 60 years, her brother, Barney W. Miller, her niece, Dana G. Miller of Oklahoma City and her dear friend, Betty Jane Nolan of New Orleans.
