Mary Lavigne Picou

Mary Lavigne Picou was born in Ponchatoula, LA, on January 5, 1933, and passed away peacefully at home in the presence of her family on Monday, May 8, 2023, at the age of 90. She was a long term resident of Baton Rouge, LA. She loved nothing better than spending time with her three children, six grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren. Mary was a member of the Local Chapter of the Magnolia Homemakers Club as well as the St. Patrick Catholic Church Altar Society. She was a lifelong fan of every LSU sport and any sport her grandchildren played. Mary loved traveling with her husband, “Buster”, and their many friends. Mary is survived by her daughters, Carolyn Couvillion (Brent), Kathy Hubbell (Steve), and Rhonda Bohnenstiehl; grandchildren, Jeremy B. Couvillion (Beth), Jill C. Barrilleaux (Eric), Amie H. Strickland (Carson), Todd S. Hubbell (Kelly), Jordan T. Bohnenstiehl (Sophia), and Scott Bohnenstiehl; great-grandchildren Ben and Clara Couvillion, Kate and Ella Barrilleaux, Julia and Ford Strickland, Lily, Eli, Laurel, Camille, Cecile and Elise Hubbell; cherished sister-in-law, Beverly P. Costanza and her husband, Frank; and very special friends, Oceania and Jay Scardina, and Kay Linxwiler. She is preceded in death by her husband of 70 years, Elie A. “Buster” Picou; parents, Ovide J. and Lydia Bourque Lavigne; and siblings, Janice Watkins, Joe and Merlin Lavigne. Visitation will be held at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 12424 Brodgon Lane, Baton Rouge, LA, on Thursday, May 11, 2023, from 10:00am until the Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00am. Burial will be private. The family would like to extend a special thanks to her kind and compassionate sitters, GeorgeAnne Wells, Janice Ahaiwe, Ernestine Eubanks, and Pat Young, and longtime neighbors, Julie and Scott Napoli, and Leon Simar.
