Mary Louise Domingue Rozier, a loving and devoted Wife, Mother, Sister, Grandmother “Mawmaw”, and Great Grandmother peacefully passed away on July 21st, 2025 while surrounded by Loved Ones. She was two months away from celebrating her 94th birthday. She was born on September 20 of 1931, in Erwinville, Louisiana, to Stanley and Josephine Domingue. Mary Louise married Anthony Rozier, Sr. of Lafayette, Louisiana on July 29th, 1953. They shared 65 years of a loving and devoted marriage while raising six children.
The center of Louise’s life was her Catholic Faith. Her Faith embodied a passion for the Holy Eucharist – the True Presence of Jesus in the Mass, with a profound devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and to the Immaculate Heart of Blessed Mother. Louise understood the role of Priests as men who stand in the person of Christ, while celebrating the Sacraments of Reconciliation and the Eucharist. Her gratitude in receiving Jesus Himself in the Eucharist resulted in her admirable respect and affection for all Priests and Religious. This love for the Lord and our Lady transcended throughout her life, touching many lives. Her steadfast dedication in honoring Our Lord Jesus Christ was seen through her acts of: service, prayer, and sacrifice. Louise stressed the importance of family rosaries, as an essential part in the formation of her six children.
This deep faith was also enriched by her singing, especially during the Holy Mass. Her angelic voice filled many churches, homes, dining halls and living rooms with joy and laughter. Her life was one continuous song, singing in many choirs and acapella for Masses, weddings, funerals, anniversaries and birthdays. One of her most memorable singing engagements for family and friends was singing the Birthday Song accompanied by praying the Birthday Prayer.
In true Southern hospitality, Louise’ open-door policy welcomed all at the table. As an excellent cook, she delighted in preparing home-cooked meals and homemade desserts- including but not limited to her famous coconut and lemon cakes, pecan pralines, and meat/crawfish pies and bisque. One could never forget the celebration of her husband’s Christmas Eve birthday, with her delicious seafood fila gumbo, prepared before Midnight Mass.
Louise devoted her life to her family, friends, and to the Lord. She was actively involved with the Legion of Mary, 3rd Order of Mary, Altar Society, Angels of Sodality, rosary groups, and the church choir. As an active member of the Altar Society, she spent countless hours during holiday seasons of Christmas and Easter decorating the church. She was a long-time member of both St. Agnes and St. George Catholic Churches.
Her family offers a special thanks to the staff at Hospice of Baton Rouge, as well as the staff and residents at Holly Court Assisted Living, for the love and support shown during her final days with us.
Family requests that any memorial donations contributed to her name be sent to the Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank (brfoodbank.org) or kindly request a Mass for her soul anywhere you desire. Blank envelopes will also be available at the Funeral Mass for any donations towards Mass intentions.
Louise was preceded in death by her husband, Anthony, as well as siblings; Alvin, Henry, Cecil, and Elnora, and grandsons; Vern Jr., Justin, and Andre.
