

Mary Etta Sherburne passed away Tuesday, September 18, 2012 after a brief stay in the hospital in Pasadena, Texas. Mary was born on March 30, 1923 in Frederick, Oklahoma to John and Lydia Burba. She was the 4th of six children. Her sister Linda Russell lives in Amarillo, Texas. Mary and Jack Sherburne were married June 9, 1946. The children of the marriage are Judith Mae Barber, Patricia Sharp Groben and Mary Elizabeth Sumerlin. Grandchildren are Robert Justice Dominguez, Randall Scott Franks, Ellen Marie Franks, Jason Kiel Lyngaas, Rachel Marie Sumerlin, Farroll Sterling Barber, Adam David Sumerlin, Frank Orval Sharp and Farroll Lynn Barber. Mary was a mom to Scott Groben, Jared Vicknair, Nicole Sharp and Susan Franks as well. Great Grandchildren are Mariah Leigh Abshire, Connor Griffin Franks, Chandler Grayson Franks, Spencer Elliott Lukasik, and Tatem Barber and Matthew Barber and Austin Jack (AJ) Vicknair, Kiely Sommer Lyngaas and Ashton Elizabeth Lyngaas. Mary is also grandmother to Jared Vicknair, Cade Vicknair, Zack Chapman, Hunter Chapman and Gavin Chapman. Mary served in World War II as a United States Marine. She was Honorably Discharged August 22, 1946. SN 770547 at the rank of Sergeant. Mary worked throughout her life as a wife, mother, stenographer, secretary and office manager until she was 75 years old. Mary was very active in the Golfing community and Women's golf associations in the Baton Rouge area for more than 30 years. Mary belonged to Westdale Ladies Golf Association, Denham Springs Country Club, Baton Rouge Women's Interclub Golf Association (she was the 2003 recipient of that organization's Annice Loyd Leet Sportsmanship Award). Mary was a highly respected golfer and a respected office holder in many groups. Mary was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers Bob, John and Dee, her sister Frances, Her husband Jack, a great granddaughter, Sommer and her daughter Mary. We are to thankful for the Pallbearers: Jared Vicknair, Sterling Barber, Adam Sumerlin and Jason Lyngaas and the Honorary Pallbearers. Mary's Service for celebration of her life is Friday, September 21 at the Greenoaks Funeral Home, 9595 Florida Boulevard, Baton Rouge, LA. Visitation hours are from 10am-12noon with the service at noon. Dr. David Womack will conduct the formal part of the service.
