

Mary Ashy Spera of Baton Rouge passed away on March 12, 2026, at the age of 107. She was truly “one of a kind”, known for her abiding love of family, attention to detail, and her years of wisdom. She had a deep faith and was a member of St. Joseph Cathedral. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph John Spera; her parents, Edward and Catherine Ashy; two sons, Edward and Charles Spera; and two daughters-in-law, Holly Spera and Bobbie Spera. She is survived by five grandchildren: Patrick Spera and wife Eva, Edward Spera, Jr. and wife Linda, all of Texas, Melissa Guillory and husband John of California, Ashley Spera, and Natalie Miller, both of Baton Rouge. She is also survived by seven great-grandchildren: Patrick, Jr., Alex, Brett, Edward III, Annabelle, Harrison, and Charles; as well as her sister, Pearl Dileo of New Orleans. The family would like to say a special thanks to Sharon Johnson and Edward Taylor for all of their help. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Alzheimer’s Services of the Capital Area, 3772 North Blvd, Baton Rouge, LA. Visitation will be on Wednesday, March 18, 2026, at St. Joseph Cathedral, 401 Main St, from 9:00 am until Funeral Mass at 10:00 am. Committal will follow at Greenoaks Memorial Park Mausoleum.
