

"Matthew Myles Smith of Baton Rouge, La. passed away on his 17th birthday, April 1, 2017 surrounded by family and many loving friends. He was the beloved son of Matthew Dean Smith and Suzanne Myles Lewis Smith. He was a junior at Catholic High School, where he was an honor student. He was a member of the school Drama Club and on the Youth Advisory Board of the Manship Theatre. He was a volunteer with Habitat for Humanity and the Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank. He touched many lives with his kindness and his free-spirited personality. Besides his parents, he leaves behind one sister, Suzanne Stafford Smith, grandparents Cammie and John Lewis of New Orleans, June Hemphill Smith of Brookhaven, MS and Houston Polk Smith of Monticello, MS, his adoring godparents Sue and Jim Gallaspy of Hattiesburg, MS, aunts and uncles Cammie Lewis, Betsy Lewis Koehner (Chris), Katie Lewis Wood (John), Kim Gallaspy, Michael Smith (Yvette), Kari Smith Johnson (Terry), Laura Smith King (David), Ivy Smith Sermos , cousins Thomas Vizard, Jack, Scottie & Robert Koehner, Bryce & Lilla Wood, and a loving list of many Smith Family cousins. The family would like to thank the Trauma ICU Team of doctors and nurses at University Medical Center in New Orleans. Their excellent care and compassion comforted the family during this difficult time, and we are eternally grateful. Myles was a registered Organ and Tissue Donor, with his last wish being to give life to those in need. His legacy will live on in extraordinary ways. A mass and burial service will take place on Thursday, April 6, 2017, at St. Aloysius Catholic Church, 2025 Stuart Ave. in Baton Rouge. Visitation begins at 9:30, with Mass starting at 11:00. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Aloysius Catholic School, The Children's Hospital of Our Lady of the Lake, or the charity of your choice.
