
Maureen Anderson passed away Sunday, May 9, 2010, after complications from surgery. She was born Maureen J. Anderson on March 3, 1931, in Binghamton, N.Y., to Maurice and Eileen Gage. After the early death of their mother, she and her twin sister were raised by their grandmother, Ada Gage, whom they dearly loved. Her father's work took the family to adventures in many cities in Texas, Louisiana and Florida throughout her childhood. She attended Southwest Texas State College in San Marcos before marrying Gilbert Anderson, of Austin. She was a longtime resident of Baton Rouge, moving here in 1953, and returning in 1995, after living in Kennebunkport, Maine, and Virginia Beach, Va., where she made many friends in addition to her Louisiana friends. She also worked for a time in Houston and New Orleans. She spent a great portion of her life taking care of the elderly and was known for her love of animals. She is survived by two sisters, Doreen Dunaway, of Houston and Mary Hawkins, of Austin; a daughter, Rebecca Brennan, of Dublin, Ireland; two grandchildren, Paul and Aurora Brennan, both of Dublin; as well as nephews and niece, Steve Dunaway, of Seattle, Brian Dunaway, of Houston and Paul and Lauren Hawkins, both of Austin.
