

Dr. Maurice Pierre Pomes, Jr., 85 years old, a native of New Orleans born on October 31, 1930, died on Sunday, January 31, 2016, after a lengthy illness. The son of the late Maurice Pierre and Velma Doussan Pomes, Maurice is survived by his loving and dedicated wife, Sandy ; daughters, Pam Thibodeaux (Jerry); Mary Lilly (John); Debbie Daniel (John L.); brothers, Frank Pomes (Carol); and Charles Pomes (Pat); 9 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. Maurice was preceded in death by his first wife, Joan; son, Tommy; sisters, Elaine LeBas and Velma Rose Pomes, Medical Missionary Sister, and a great-grandson. Maurice, a graduate of Holy Cross High School, was a much loved and caring Baton Rouge Doctor of Podiatry for almost 50 years. He actively participated in the Baton Rouge Mardi Gras Krewe of Tucumcari and New Orleans Krewe of Mid-City. He was also a member of the East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's Flotilla; Past Grand Commander of the Order of Alhambra Hiaya Caravan #135, dedicated to the developmentally disabled, and the St. Thomas More Catholic Church Holy Name Society. Visitation will be held at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 11441 Goodwood Blvd., Baton Rouge, on Wednesday, February 3, 2016, from 9:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m., followed immediately by a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will be following the Mass at St. Louis #3 Cemetery, 3421 Esplanade Ave., New Orleans. Our special thanks to the caregivers of the Baton Rouge General on Bluebonnet and St. Joseph Hospice, The Carpenter House.
