

Fletes, M.D., Raul EnriqueFamily, faith, surgery, world travel, and golf were the passions of Dr. Raul Fletes, who passed away on Wednesday, January 14, 2015 at The Crossing at Clarity Hospice in Baton Rouge. He was 91. An orthopedic surgeon by trade in Managua, Nicaragua, Raul moved his family to the United States in 1979 and became a naturalizedcitizen of the United States with his wife and family in 1989. Raul graduated from Universidad National de Nicaragua in 1953 with a Doctor of Medicine and Surgery degree. He served as resident of orthopedics in the Jersey City Medical Center and Emory University Hospital from 1953 to 1957. After his residency, Raul moved back to Nicaragua to practice medicine until leaving the country for the United States in 1979. He retired in 2008. He is survived by his wife, Elba Lugo Fletes; two sons, Raul Fletes and wife Earline, and Bosco Fletes and wife Johanna; two daughters, Elba St. Romain and husband David and Lizel Varnado and husband Paul; grandchildren, Michael Mena and Lauren Madison, Cristina Fletes, Lizel and Katherine Varnado, Gabriel and Vanessa Fletes; and five great-grandchildren and a sister, Yolanda Fletes Sorto. He was preceded in death by, parents, Encarnacion and Soledad Fletes, sister, Olga Fletes Garcia, brother Roberto Fletes and grandson Raul Fletes. Visitation will be at Rabenhorst Funeral Home East 11000 Florida Blvd. starting at 10:00 am Saturday, January 17, 2015 until dismissal at 12:15pm with a procession to St. George Catholic Church for the Mass of Christian Burial at 1:00pm with entombment at the church mausoleum.
