Melanie "Peaches" Bertus, age 77, of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, passed away peacefully on August 18, 2026.
She was a devoted mother whose love for her family was the center of her life. She showed up for her children always, and she treated everyone she met with kindness.
Peaches lived with a spirit that never slowed down. She went parasailing and skydiving, sailed on cruises with her son, and at sixty years old she was still doing cannonballs into the pool. She also loved the game of golf.
She was preceded in death by her father, Nye "MyNye" Munson; her mother, Jean Cooper Munson; her daughter, Michelle Renee Bertus; her brother, Kent "Bootsie" Munson; and her aunt, Betty Cooper.
She is survived by her three children, Katherine Bertus, Rayette Bertus, and Jeremy Bertus; her grandchildren, Christian Bonfanti, Gideon Blum, and Mikey Guru and his lifelong partner, Elissa White; and her great-grandchildren, Leighra and Odin White.
She is also survived by her nieces and nephew, Kimberly Munson, Kent Munson Jr., and Kendyl Munson.
Peaches was cremated. A celebration of her life will be held at a later date, and friends and family are warmly invited to join in remembering her.
