
She was a retired school bus driver with the East Baton Rouge Parish school system and a member of the Eastern Star and Zoar Baptist Church. She enjoyed fishing, her family and her many friends. She was 83 and a native and resident of Central. Melba died on Sunday, Jan. 25, 2009, at Baton Rouge General Medical Center-Mid City. She was born on May 11, 1925, in Baton Rouge. Visiting will be at Rabenhorst Funeral Home East, 11000 Florida Blvd., on Tuesday, Jan. 27, was from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Visiting at Zoar Baptist Church on Wednesday from 9:30 a.m. until religious service at 11 a.m., conducted by the Rev. Kevin Hand. Burial in the church cemetery. Survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Jay and Rubye Devall, of Central, and Ray and Ruth Devall, of Pierre Part; daughter-in-law, Pat Devall Mouch, of Baton Rouge; sisters, Daisy Lee Herpin, of Central, and Etta Sue Schultz, of Colorado Springs; 12 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and a great-great-grandchild. Preceded in death by her husband, Virgil Devall; son, Randall "Randy" Marvin Devall; parents, Elmena A. Watts Robinson and James Julius Robinson; and brothers, Marvin, Gordon and Harold Ray Robinson. Pallbearers will be her grandsons, David Devall, Mark Devall, Randall "B-boy" Devall, Erik Rathcke, Corey Bueche and Nathan Hayman. The family wishes to say a special thanks to caregivers, Glenda Lemoine and Fran Benson. Memorial donations may be made to Zoar Baptist Cemetery Fund.
