Melvin was born and raised in Baton Rouge and graduated from Istrouma High School. He attended LSU, then served in the United States Air Force. Melvin retired from ExxonMobil where he was a process operator.
Melvin is survived by his beloved sisters, Maxine Guichet Helouin and Judy Guichet Sanders (Ron), eight nieces, four nephews, and numerous great-nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jules Joseph Guichet, Sr., and Addie Davis Guichet, his brother Jules Joseph Guichet, Jr., sisters, Lucy Guichet Schrader and Cynthia Rose Guichet.
Melvin was a kind and gentle soul who loved traveling the highways and byways of South Louisiana. He had a great love of family and enjoyed gatherings with them. His colorful wit and wisdom will long be remembered, as well as his frequent response in family conversations: “Yep, Yep, yep!" The family would like to thank The Barclay House and Hospice of Baton Rouge for their excellent care and guidance during his final illness.
Visitation will be held at Greenoaks Funeral Home, 9595 Florida Blvd., Baton Rouge, from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM, on Thursday, July 3, 2025. A service will be conducted by The Reverend David Allen at 10:00 AM. Burial will follow in Greenoaks Memorial Park. Family and friends are invited to attend.
