

A loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and devoted wife of 50 years, she passed on to be with her husband, whom she missed so much, at 3:45 a.m. Friday, Oct. 3, 2008, at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center. She was 78, a resident of Zachary and a native of Jackson. She loved her family and took care of so many people throughout her life. She enjoyed cooking, playing bingo and being with her family. Visitation at Rabenhorst Funeral Home East, 11000 Florida Blvd., was on Saturday from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Visitation resumes at the funeral home chapel on Sunday from 11 a.m. until the religious service at 2 p.m. Interment will follow in Greenoaks Memorial Park. She is survived by four daughters, Jean Fussell and husband Larry, Connie Kimball and husband Raymond "Peanut," Margaret Bennett, and Denise Disedare and husband Edward; son, Glenn Bennett and fiancée Susan Weber; grandchildren, Lori Fussell, Stacy Morgan, Karen Eisworth, Troy and Justin Kimball, James and Bruce Magee, Bridget Ellis, Jonathan and Shelby Bennett and Nicolas Disedare; and great-grandchildren, Mikala, Maggie and Sophia Magee, Cody and Laney Eisworth, Colby Boden, Colten Ellis, Luke and Connor Kimball and Lily and Baby Morgan. Melvis was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Oliver Bennett Jr.; parents, Willie D. Day Sr. and Dee Alford Day; brothers, Alton Day and Willie Day Jr.; and sisters, Doris Sterling and Erma Gomez. Pallbearers will be James Magee, Bruce Magee, Troy Kimball, Justin Kimball, Jonathan Bennett and Nicolas Disedare. Our special thanks and gratitude to Raymond "Peanut" Kimball for opening his heart and home to our mother.
