

Michael Stuart Barton passed away at 9 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 18, 2007, at Baton Rouge General Medical Center-Bluebonnet. Born in Baltimore on April 4, 1941, Mr. Barton moved to Baton Rouge with his family in 1947. He graduated from Baton Rouge High School in 1959 and from LSU in 1963, when he began his service in the U.S. Army Reserve. He was an official with the Louisiana Department of Transportation for more than 30 years. He also worked weekends for 10 years at the Webb Park Golf Course, following a lifelong love of golfing. Mr. Barton was a longtime member of St. Thomas More Catholic Church. He was a loving father and good friend. Mr. Barton is survived by his two daughters, Kelly Barton Guempel and Katherine Barton; son-in-law, Chris Guempel; and his former wife, Miriam Gonsoulin Barton. He is also survived by his brother, Richard Alan Barton, of Arlington, Va.; sister, Martha Barton LeFebvre, of Bartlett, Tenn.; and grandson, Michael Christopher Guempel. Visitation at Rabenhorst Funeral Home East, 11000 Florida Blvd., was on Thursday, Sept. 20, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Visitation at St. Thomas More Catholic Church on Friday from 11 a.m. until Mass of Christian Burial at noon, with the Rev. Thomas Duhé, celebrant.
