Michael "Pops" Wayne Peavy

Michael Wayne Peavy, affectionately known to nearly everyone as "Pops," of Denham Springs, Louisiana, passed away on September 21, 2026, at the age of 65. Michael was a beloved father, grandfather, brother, friend, and a larger-than-life presence to everyone fortunate enough to know him. He was the kind of man who never met a stranger. With his big personality, unmistakable sense of humor, and heart of gold, Pops had a way of making people feel welcome, important, and like they had known him their entire lives. For more than 30 years, Michael owned and operated his own drywall and construction company. He was a hardworking man who took great pride in what he built, but the greatest source of pride in his life was always his family. Michael shared 28 years of marriage with his beloved wife, Michele Nelson Peavy, before her passing in 2015. Their life together created a family that Michael treasured above everything else. He leaves behind his son, Micah Peavy; Micah's wife, Holly Arnold Peavy, whom Pops adored and loved as a daughter; his daughter, Courtney Peavy; Courtney's fiancé, Drake Hughes, whom Michael came to love and consider as a son; and the absolute light of his life, his grandson, Lucas Peavy. Being "Pops" to Lucas was one of the greatest joys of Michael's life. He cherished every opportunity to spend time with his grandson, make memories with him, and share with him the things he loved. Michael is also survived by his three sisters: Janie Michelli, his youngest sister; Janie's husband James "Jimmy" Michelli; Rhonda Caston; Rhonda's husband, Alan Caston; and Ellen Thomas, his oldest sister. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Michele Nelson Peavy; his father, Leo Peavy, whom Michael lost when he was 17 years old; and his mother, Jean Beard, who passed away in 2003. To know Michael is to know his love for drag racing. Drag racing wasn't simply a hobby for Michael, it was a passion. He loved fast cars, powerful engines, the sound of horsepower, and everything that came along with racing. Whether he was working on something, talking about racing, or enjoying it with the people he loved, it was a part of who he was. Michael also loved cooking, music, and attending live concerts. More than anything, though, he loved spending time with his children, his grandson, his family, and the many friends who became family along the way. Michael was often the biggest personality in the room, but his heart was even bigger. He genuinely loved helping people and would do whatever he could for someone in need. Perhaps one of the greatest reflections of Michael's character was the way he continued to care about the happiness of others even while facing his own illness. He never wanted the focus to be on himself. He rarely complained, continued making people laugh, and found happiness in bringing happiness to those around him. There are some people whose absence leaves a silence that is impossible to fill. Michael Wayne "Pops" Peavy was one of those people. He will be remembered for his larger-than-life personality, his generosity, his strength, his love of family, his passion for racing and music, and the countless laughs and memories he gave to the people around him. He will be remembered as a man who worked hard, loved deeply, helped freely, and could make a friend anywhere he went. But most of all, he will simply be remembered as Pops. A father. A grandfather. A brother. A friend. And a man with a heart of gold who made life a little more fun for everyone lucky enough to know him. Visitation will be held at Greenoaks Funeral Home & Memorial Park, 9595 Florida Blvd, Baton Rouge, this Saturday, Sept 26, from 11am-2pm with service to immediately follow.
