
A retired physician, he died at his home in Baton Rouge on Wednesday, July 18, 2007. He is survived by his wife, Nita Kidd Harris; sons, Shelby Hayes Main Harris and his wife, Chris, of Baton Rouge, and Dr. Milton L. Harris Jr. and his wife, Michelle, of New Orleans; and grandchildren, Hayes Harris, Christine Harris, Julia Anne Harris and Ian Moberly. Visitation at Rabenhorst Funeral Home, 825 Government St., on Friday, July 20, from 8:30 a.m. until funeral service at 10 a.m. Interment in Roselawn Memorial Park. Born in Clarendon, Ark., on Nov. 10, 1913, he was a graduate of Washington and Lee University and Vanderbilt University School of Medicine. He performed his residency at Johns Hopkins Hospital and Baltimore City hospitals. Preceded in death by his parents, Lyttleton Tazwell Harris and Gussie Bell Harris; brother, Lyttleton T. Harris; son, Thomas Cole Main Jr.; and grandson, Thomas Cole Main III. He served as a captain in the U.S. Army during World War II in Europe. He practiced internal medicine in Baton Rouge from 1952 to 1987. He was a diplomat of the American Board of Internal Medicine and a fellow of the American College of Physicians. He was a member of the Louisiana State Medical Society, the American Medical Association, East Baton Rouge Medical Society and several medical specialty groups. He was a former member of the Rotary Club of Baton Rouge, former president of the Cancer Society of Greater Baton Rouge and a director of the Baton Rouge Chamber of Commerce. He served on the advisory board of the Salvation Army and was a member of First Presbyterian Church. He was a member of the Baton Rouge Assembly, Kappa Alpha Order, Baton Rouge Country Club and the Sons of the American Revolution.
