

A native of Greenup, Ky., and a resident of Lexington, Ky., she passed away on Monday, Aug. 13, 2007, at Central Baptist Hospital in Lexington. She was 87. She was a retired chemist who worked on the first atomic bomb project at Oak Ridge National Laboratory in Oak Ridge, Tenn., though, at the time, neither she nor any of her fellow workers knew the true nature of their work, only that it was truly significant and highly classified. She was an avid reader, who worked toward and ultimately received a degree in library science, though she never actually worked as a librarian. She is survived by her sons, James S. Woolley, D.D.S., and Stanley E. Woolley. She was preceded in death by her parents, William J. and Margaret M. Hockaday; and by her daughter, Judith M. Woolley. Visitation will be at Rabenhorst Funeral Home, 825 Government St., on Saturday, Aug. 18, from 9 a.m. until religious service at 11 a.m., conducted by the Rev. Milford Walters.
