

Miriam Elizabeth Stuckey Tollett passed away on April 3, 2014, her 95th birthday. She was born in Shady Grove, Alabama, the oldest daughter of Walter and Lena Stuckey. In 1941 she graduated from Florida State College for Women (Florida State University) with a degree in Home Economics. Miriam began her career in Apalachicola, Florida. In November, 1941 she married Nolan Elisha Tollett, right before he was inducted into the Army Air Force. As a navigator, he flew many overseas missions during his forty five months of service. After the war they moved to several university towns in the south, following Nolan's career as a teacher and football coach. Along the way Miriam taught twenty seven years and raised four sons. She taught three years in Ascension Parish and then taught in the East Baton Rouge School District at Istrouma Junior High and Park Forest Junior High. Miriam retired from teaching in 1978 and enjoyed traveling all over the world with her husband and close friends.
Nolan and Miriam were a loving and devoted couple who believed that education and hard work were the keys to success; values which their sons embraced. Miriam's love for her sons, their families and her many friends gave her a rich and meaningful life. Miriam was an avid LSU fan, never missing a televised game. She will be remembered for her fascination with nature and people. Her love for both made her happy.
Miriam was preceded in death by her husband, Nolan Tollett, Sr. and granddaughter, Johnette Miriam Tollett. Left to cherish her memory are her four sons, Nolan Elisha Tollett, Jr. (Dianne), John Roland Tollett (Karla), Robert Marion Tollett (Jane), Thomas Baille Tollett (Laurian). Grandchildren include Derek Fletcher, Roland Tollett, Tracy Everett, Geoff Tollett, Noelle Tollett, Jaxson Tollett, Tyler Tollett, Greyson Tollett, Nikolas Tollett, Samantha Tollett and six great grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 3:00-5:00 p.m., Sunday, April 6, in the chapel of Greenoaks Funeral Home at 9595 Florida Blvd. Services will be at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, April 7, at Greenoaks followed by interment in the Greenoaks Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be her sons, Nolan Tollett, John Tollett, Robert Tollett, Tom Tollett and grandsons Geoff Tollett and Roland Tollett.
