
Misael L. "Mike" Duran died peacefully at his home on Tuesday, Sept. 16, 2008, following a courageous battle with colon cancer and Alzheimer's disease. He was born in Cayo Mambi, Cuba, on July 18, 1923. Misael was a mechanical engineer, worked in the sugar-cane production industry, and retired from IPS Engineers. Misael, his wife, Eva, and mother, Tina, immigrated to the United States from Cuba in the early 1960s. He was extremely proud that they all became naturalized citizens after one year of living in this country. Mike loved to cook and enjoyed sharing food with family, friends and neighbors. Survived by his adored wife and soulmate of nearly 66 years, Eva, and her nephew, Ramiro Barrientos, of Miami, his wife, Maria Toirac, and their children; and her niece, Eva J. Barrientos, of Miami, her husband, Enrique Matos, and their children. Misael was preceded in death by his mother, Ernestina Sollet. Visitation at St. George Catholic Church on Thursday, Sept. 18, from 10 a.m. until funeral Mass at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Mike Schatzle, celebrant.
