
A native and lifelong resident of Baton Rouge, Nelson passed away at 5:30 a.m., Thursday, Feb. 23, 2012, at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center from complications of pneumonia. After graduating from Baton Rouge High School, in 1942, he enlisted in the Navy and served in the Pacific Theater for 3 ½ years. Upon his return he entered LSU and graduated in 1950. He was founder and owner of Louisiana Glass, Inc. He retired in 1993. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, a 32nd degree Mason and a member of St. James Lodge, an alumnus of Kappa Alpha Order and a longtime member of The Baton Rouge Country Club. He enjoyed golf, cars, music, and especially his many friends. We all will miss Nelson's enthusiasm for life! Nelson is survived by his wife of 60 years, Marshall Ann Heflin Bourgeois; and his beloved pet "Pie". He was preceded in death by his parents, Nelson A. Sr. and Hazel Morrison Bourgeois. The family wishes to express appreciation and special thanks to Dr. Gerald Barber, Dr. Mitchell Hebert, Dr. Andrew Rees and Dr. Richard Carter. Pallbearers will be Tommy Lafargue, Stephen Smith, Rick Nevils, Ronnie Kean, Velo Castro, Larry Smith and Benton Abernethy. Honorary pallbearers are Jack Perrault, Charles Perrault, Wally Gladney, Troye Svendson, Sterling Abernethy, Mark Abernethy and the Lunch Bunch at the Baton Rouge Country Club. Services at First Presbyterian Church Sanctuary, 763 North Blvd., on Saturday, Feb. 25, with visiting at 1 p.m. until service time at 2 p.m. Entombment will follow at Green Oaks Mausoleum.
