
He went home to be with the Lord at 5:40 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2008, at the Hospice of Baton Rouge Butterfly Unit. Born in Edgar, he was 94 and a longtime resident of Baton Rouge. Before retiring from Ethyl Corp. with 32 years of service, he was a firefighter for the city of Plaquemine. Visitation at Rabenhorst Funeral Home East chapel, 11000 Florida Blvd., on Wednesday from 9 a.m. until religious service at 11 a.m., conducted by the Rev. Wayne Talley. Interment at Resthaven Gardens of Memory. Survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn and Ronald Vendt; three sisters, Edmondé "Dee" Robert, of Thibodaux, Theresa "Bee" Hill, of Laguna Nigel, Calif., and Joyce and husband Chester Hernandez, of Plaquemine; three grandchildren, Kelli Tyson, Phillip Wooten Jr. and Ryan Wooten; seven great-grandchildren, John and Cassie Tyson and Micah, Megan, Joseph, Emily and Anna Wooten; and three great-great-grandchildren, Tyson, Bailey and Kason Gaurin. Preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Stella Alford Rayne; parents, Henry M. Rayne Sr. and Lucille Songy Rayne; sister, Laurence "Sis" Lorio; and four brothers, Marcel, Elmo, Roger and H.M. Rayne Jr. Thanks to the staff of Ochsner Medical Center, Vital Source Specialty Hospital and Hospice of Baton Rouge for giving so much of themselves.
