
Nick Maggio, a native of Baton Rouge and a resident of Zachary, passed away Friday, Dec. 23, 2011, at the age of 89. Mr. Maggio was retired from Painters Local 728 and a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in the Persian Gulf with Company "C" 363D Engineering Regiment. Visiting will be at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Zachary, on Monday, Dec. 26, from 8:30 a.m. until Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m., celebrated by the Rev. Jeff Bayhi with a rosary at 9:30 a.m. Burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Park. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Lucy Salemi Maggio; daughters and sons-in-law, Carolyn and Joe Achord, of Baker, Janet and Terry Marcotte Sr., of Zachary, and Cathy and Clay Rougeau, of Conway, Ark.; sons and daughters-in-law, Nick C. and wife Karen, of Prairieville, Tommy and Donna Maggio, and Steve Maggio, all of Zachary; a sister, Tina Laird, of Baton Rouge; 13 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Annie Maggio; three sisters, Mary, Laura and Sarah; and two brothers, Joe and Emile. Pallbearers will be Chris Maggio, Wyatt Achord, Bryan Maggio, Terry Marcotte Jr., Lucas Rougeau and Nick Rougeau. Mr. Maggio was an avid fisherman and also enjoyed traveling and seeing the country. His family would like to thank the nurses and staff of St. Joseph Hospice for providing peace, comfort and dignity.
