Nolan Sidney “Sid” Osterberger, Jr., affectionately known as “Pops” went to be with his Heavenly Father on September 25, 2026, at the Landmark of Baton Rouge, surrounded by members of his family and close friend, Lari Bridges. Born August 27, 1949, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Sid was the son of Nolan Sidney Osterberger, Sr. and Sybil Arbour Osterberger. He was a graduate of Baton Rouge High School and Baton Rouge Vocational Institute. Sid will be remembered for his creativity, humility, loyalty, and commitment to serving others. He leaves behind not only the many things he created with his gifted hands, but also the countless lives he touched along the way. Above all, Sid was a devoted husband, dad, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Among the Dance by Trudie community, everyone knew him simply as “Mr. Trudie,” a title he wore with great pride. It was a fitting reminder of his devotion to his wife and her dance studio. Sid was honored to spend 42 years working for Dow Chemical’s Louisiana operations. He became well known for his drawings, safety decals, and caricatures of coworkers. Notably, he was commissioned to create artwork commemorating Dow Louisiana Operations’ 25th and 50th anniversaries. He signed his artwork “Osty,” a nickname that became nearly as recognizable as he was. Sid was a member of Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church. He volunteered for United Way Campaigns, Boy Scouts of America, East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office, Junior Deputy Program and Flotilla, Our Lady of Mercy School and Brighton Academy functions and fairs. He was a certified firearms instructor and NRA Marksman. For 35 years, he was a proud member of the Baton Rouge Scale Modelers Club. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Trudie Davis Osterberger of Baton Rouge; his children, Jason (Brandy), Jeremy (Alison), Jill (Lee Ozment), Jana (Brandon Metz), and Julie (Vincent Mendes de Gouveia); his grandchildren, Tanner, Landon, Addison, Ava, Luke, Camille, Jude, Easton, Emilee, Ellie, Hayden, Elizabeth, Nash, and Nathan; and his great-granddaughter, Maya. Also survived by his favorite brother-in-law, James R. Davis, Jr. (Gretchen) and nieces, Claire Rutland and Kathryn Romano. Visitation will be held Friday, October 2, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Rabenhorst Funeral Home, 11000 Florida Blvd., Baton Rouge, LA 70815. Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, October 3, 2026, at 11:00 a.m., with visitation starting at 10:00 at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church, 445 Marquette Ave., Baton Rouge, LA 70806. Interment at Roselawn Cemetery 4045 North St. following Mass. Serving as pallbearers are Luke Osterberger, Easton Ozment, Tanner Smith, Landon Osterberger, Vincent Mendes de Gouveia, and Brandon Metz. Honorary Pallbearers James R. Davis, Jr, Al Osterberger, Lee Ozment and his lifelong best friend, Tom Hirschey. After burial friends and family are invited to a Celebration of Life at Drusilla Seafood 3482 Drusilla Lane Baton Rouge, LA 70809. The family would like to thank his devoted caregiver Zelda Cummings (Ms. Ike) and the staff of Landmark of Baton Rouge for their compassionate care. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the Our Lady of Mercy Traditions for Tomorrow Campaign in Sid’s memory.
