
Poet Mary Oliver wrote: To live in this world you must be able to do three things: love what is mortal; hold it against your bones knowing your own life depends on it; and, when the time comes to let go, let go. Nora Eskridge Grigsby let go of a life lived through faith in her family, her church, and her community on January 28, 2015. An English teacher, she touched the lives of students for more than 30 years at Istrouma High School, Prescott Middle, Tara and Robert E. Lee. She traveled the world with her husband and taught when she could in countries like Sri Lanka. She began serving at the age of 15 as a Louisiana delegate to the National 4-H Club Congress in 1935. She later devoted her time to service through VIPS, the LSU Book Barn, Kappa Delta Alumna, Delta Kappa Gamma and the FUMC Getty Circle. She was named a Volunteer Activist in 1991. She had an exceptional relationship with her grandson Robert ,who was with her throughout her final days. She is survived by her son McGee Grigsby, her daughters Nora Grigsby Heroman (wife of John Taylor Heroman) and Kathryn Grigsby; her grandchildren Nora Mallory Grigsby, Reid Macdonald Grigsby; Nora Reid Heroman and John Taylor Heroman, Jr. (wife Amanda) and Robert P. Breazeale III; great-grandchildren Charles Heroman and Ariel Heroman; her cousin Nellie Dee Lann Hunt, her sister-in-law Sigrid Grigsby and family; her niece Nora Muse Robertson (husband Floyd) and family; nephew Kirk EskridgeMuse (wife Alita and family),nephew David L. French (wife Olive Pitcher) and family. She also leaves her friend of over 75 years Dorothy Bridger Eglin. She was predeceased by her husband Reid McGee Grigsby, PhD; her son Reid Eskridge Grigsby, her grandson Mack McGee Breazeale and her sister Kathryn Eskridge Muse. A celebration of her life will be held at First United Methodist Church 930 North Blvd. on Wednesday, February 4 with visitation at 11:00 followed by a memorial service at 12:00 noon.
