On the evening of August 16, 2023, Odette Charbonnet Hixon Collett peacefully passed into the loving arms of Our Lord Jesus Christ while surrounded by her loving children. Odette was born to Lucille Charbonnet Hixon and William Hayden Hixon in New Orleans, LA on September 14, 1935. She attended Sacred Heart Academy throughout her elementary and high school years while playing many sports and excelling in basketball. At her graduation in 1953, Odette was awarded the Sportsmanship Award for basketball. She entered Newcomb College in 1953 and became a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma Fraternity and was voted into “Assets” by the Newcomb Faculty. While at Newcomb, Odette met the love of her life, Anthony “Tony” J. Collett Jr. They were married in 1957 while Tony was attending Tulane Medical School. Moving to Baton Rouge where her husband began his medical practice, Odette was active in many clubs and organizations. She was a member of the East Baton Rouge Medical Alliance, Kappa Kappa Gamma Alumni Association, Junior League of Baton Rouge, La Tertulia Study Club, Pollard Planters Garden Club, Daughters of the American Revolution, and East Baton Rouge Eye Bank Auxiliary. Odette enjoyed volunteering at the Pregnancy Problem Center and at St. Aloysius School for over 25 years, while her five children attended. She was very active at St. Aloysius with the Come Lord Jesus and Senior Ministries and serving lunch in the school cafeteria. Odette’s husband of 49 years, her five children, home, garden, and the Great Smokey Mountains were her passions. Odette was preceded in death by her loving husband, her parents, and her sisters Judy Dwyer of North Carolina and Lucille Hixon of New Orleans. She is survived by her five devoted children; Justin Collett and wife Audra, Odette “Detsie” Roy and husband Jeff Roy of Lafayette, William “Bill” Collett and wife Janice, Michele Teagle and husband Mike of Kingwood, TX and Chris Collett and wife Amy of Kalispell, Montana. She was also blessed with eight wonderful grandchildren whom she loved very much; Jeffrey and Thomas Roy; Michael, Katherine and Annemarie Teagle; Peyton, Parker and Emma Collett, along with numerous nieces and nephews. Her family would like to thank her wonderful caregivers: Kimberly Glasper, Petra Davis and Keion Carr. A Special thank you to Mary Ross for her 50 plus years of love and devotion to Odette and her children. We also appreciate the kindness and compassionate care given to Odette by The Hospice of Baton Rouge. Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 24, 2023 at St. Aloysius Catholic Church from 10:30am until a Mass of Christian Burial at 12pm. Burial to follow at St. Gabriel Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the St. Aloysius Catholic School Parish Endowed Scholarships or to the Pregnancy Problem Center.
