Oliver Carroll Dickerson, a native of Indian Village, Louisiana, and resident of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, passed away on Saturday, January 21, 2017 at the Butterfly Wing of Baton Rouge General Mid City, at the age of 81. His passion was studying the Bible and all history. He is survived by his wife, of 55 years, Emilie Price Dickerson, daughter Kelli Dickerson Crawford; Brothers, Lemmie Dickerson and spouse, Diane; Donnie Dickerson and spouse, Jan; Gary Dickerson and spouse, Debbie.; Sister, Sylvia Dickerson Smith and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents William and Sybil Dickerson and sister-in- law, Nettie Lea Dickerson. Visitation will be held at Greenoaks Funeral Home from 5 pm - 8 pm Monday, January 23, 2017. Visitation will resume on Tuesday January 24, 2017 from 10 am until funeral services begin at 12 pm. Burial will follow at Greenoaks Memorial Park. Oliver graduated from Istrouma High School in 1955. He attended LSU and was a member of the Coast Guard Reserves. He was a Master Sergeant in the United States Marine Corp. He was employed by Dow Chemical, retiring after 32 years of service. He served as Supervisor of Track Maintenance. He was a Deacon at Istrouma Baptist Church, where he taught Fifth Grade Sunday School, which brought him much joy. He was named Sunday School Teacher of the year. Oliver served on the Central City Board of Adjustment, was a member of the American Legion and the Marine Corps League. He received the Masonic Award for 50 years of service and was a Thirty Second Degree Mason at Central Masonic Lodge. Another joy of his life was coaching boys’ softball. Oliver is also survived by brother-in-law Jon Price and wife, Stephanie, sister-in-law Ruth Price O'Connor; Niece, Jamie Price Lindsey, who was like a granddaughter, and her husband, Jay, children James Elliott and Jackson Wyatt Lindsey and many nieces and nephews. In special memory of sister-in-law Dorothy O'Neal Wilhite and brothers-in-law Bobby Glenn Price, John Burke O'Connor, nephew, Lonnie Price and niece, Tracy Price Madden. Pallbearers will be Ronald Patrick, Chuck Larsen, Charlie Crawford, Lemmie Dickerson, Jay Lindsey, Tad Dickerson, Jonathan Countess and Sam Birchfield. Honorary pallbearers will be Jon Price, Ralph Price, Don Price and Greg Hays. Special thanks to the Central Fire Dept., Pinnacle Home Health and The Butterfly Wing of Baton Rouge General Medical Center. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Benevolent Committee of Istrouma Baptist Church or to The Butterfly Wing of Baton Rouge General Hospital.
