He was a graduate of Rougon High School, Class of 1948. He worked as a carpenter, cattleman, and operated a butcher shop. He was a member of the Louisiana Farm Bureau, Louisiana Cattlemen’s Association, Louisiana Sugarcane Association, and the Father Louis Savouré Knights of Columbus Council 8878. He was elected to serve on the Pointe Coupee Parish Police Jury from January 12, 1988, to April 27, 1993.
Oliver was well known for his famous Cochon de Lait dinners at the annual Immaculate Conception Catholic Church fair and loved farming with his son, Cecil.
He is survived by his daughter, Dorothy “Dot” Jarreau; grandson, Jeremy Scott Jarreau; granddaughter, Monique Jarreau Rainwater (Darryl); great-granddaughter, Jordan Blaire Guarisco; great-great-grandsons, Hayden Joseph LeBlanc and Jace Michael LeBlanc; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 73 years, Laura Aguillard Jarreau; his parents, Oliver Joseph Jarreau Sr. and Lena Bello Jarreau; his son, Cecil Larry Jarreau; his brother, Lester Jarreau (Anna Belle Jarreau); and his sister, Florence Jarreau Samson (Charles Ray Samson Sr.).
Services for Oliver will be held on Saturday, June 28, 2025, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church – Lakeland, 12369 LA-416, Lakeland, LA 70752. Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM. Committal will follow at False River Memorial Park Cemetery and Mausoleum, 2050 False River Drive (Hwy 1), New Roads, LA 70760.
Pallbearers will be Scott Jarreau, James Jarreau, John Aubin Jarreau, John Rogers, Cliff Ortis, and Don Jones. Honorary pallbearers are Darryl Rainwater and Thomas Jarreau.
