
Otey Leroy White Jr. died peacefully with his loving wife of 61 years by his side on May 24th. He was 86. He was a resident of Baton Rouge and a native of Alexandria, born August 9th 1927. Otey will be remembered for his warm smile, charming personality and love of the LSU Tigers. He is survived by his wife Catharine Pearson White; children Laura White Crawford and husband Alan and Catharine White Laird of Houston, Otey L. White III and wife Susan, Harriet White Deaton and husband Tim of Memphis, and Jack Kavanaugh White II; grandchildren Catharine McAndrews Montalbano, Blake Kavanaugh Deaton, Pearson Elliott Deaton, Andrew Walker Deaton, Otey Benjamin White, William Reiser White and Emily Elizabeth White; and great-grandchildren Joseph William Montalbano Jr., Laura Catharine Montalbano and Phillip William Montalbano. He was preceded in death by his parents Otey L. White and Jesse Hudson White and siblings Alice White Hyams and Jack Kavanaugh White. Otey graduated from Bolton High School in Alexandria in 1944. He earned his undergraduate degree from Louisiana College and his masters in psychology from LSU. He was an avid tennis player and played for Bolton, Louisiana College and LSU. He served in the US Army and was a member of Kappa Alpha fraternity, Woodmen of the World, the Louisiana and Texas Chapters of Associated General Contractors and others.He spent the majority of his working days in the steel and highway construction industries and played a major role in such notable projects as the I-10 Atchafalaya Basin Bridge, I-10 Bonne Carre Spillway Bridge, the Mobile Tunnel and Hardy Toll Road (Houston). Otey volunteered his free time to civic, charity and school events and coached numerous baseball, softball and basketball teams. He rarely ever missed a game, tournament, meet, performance or recital for his children or grandchildren. Visitation will be held at Rabenhorst Funeral Home, 825 Government St. on Tuesday May 27th from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM. Visitation will continue at St. George Catholic Church on Wednesday May 28th from 9:30 till 11:00 with a Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 11:00 AM. Pallbearers will be his grandsons. Otey was a kind, easy-going man who never met a stranger and he will be dearly missed by friends and family. Family members would like to thank all of his doctors, caregivers and Hospice of Greater Baton Rouge and especially Susan Boudinot who was not only a care provider but also a friend to Otey during his final days.
