PATRICIA “KATHY” CLANCY SHORT passed away on December 4, 2024, at the age of 63. A resident of Prairieville for over 25 years, Kathy was born in Baton Rouge on October 16, 1961, to the late William Adams Clancy, Sr. and Maida O’Con Clancy. She was also preceded in death by her husband, James E. Short, Jr., and her parents.
Kathy graduated from Redemptorist High School in Baton Rouge in 1979 and worked as an administrator in various chemical plants for many years before retiring to enjoy time at home. Affectionately known as "Nana Kat" to her grandchildren, she cherished every moment with her family and friends. Kathy had a special green thumb, filling her home and back patio with a wide array of plants. She was a talented cook, known for making large pots of gumbo and a variety of savory and sweet dishes. Though she loved her children and grandchildren deeply, Kathy also had many "fur babies" throughout her life, including dogs and cats of all shapes and sizes.
At a modest 4'11", Kathy had a larger-than-life personality, often described as a firecracker by those who knew her. She was never afraid to speak her mind, but always made sure her loved ones knew how much she cared for them.
Kathy is survived by her four children: Jessica (Griff) Gulley of Hot Springs, AR; Robert “Robbie” Banta, Jr. of New Orleans, LA; Webb Harelson III of Baton Rouge; and Margaret “Maggie” Harelson of Gonzales, LA. She is also survived by five grandchildren: Griffin, Webb IV, Jayce, Maida, and Ella. Kathy is further survived by her siblings: Debbie (Danny) of Walker, LA; Will (Holly) of Baton Rouge, LA; Pat (Kim) of Youngsville, LA; and Maureen (Kelly) of Brookhaven, MS; as well as numerous nieces and nephews, her dear friend Gaelyn Lambert, and her dog, Bella.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Greenoaks Funeral Home, 9595 Florida Boulevard, Baton Rouge, LA, on Friday, December 27, 2024, with visitation from 9 a.m. until Celebration of Life at 11 a.m. Following the memorial service, Kathy will be laid to rest at Greenoaks Memorial Park with a reception will follow.
