

Patrick Vincent "Pat" Bonanno passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, Oct. 3, 2007, at the age of 70. Pat dedicated his professional life in service to his community as a law enforcement officer for more than 40 years. He was with the East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's Office for 21 years, and was chief of detectives for nine of those years. Pat was appointed chief of police of the city of Baton Rouge in 1981, and served in that position for four years. Then, for 15 years, he served as executive director for the East Baton Rouge Parish District Attorney's Office. Pat ended his career by serving as Baton Rouge's city constable. Pat graduated from Baton Rouge High School in 1955, LSU, the FBI National Academy and the FBI National Executive Institute. He held memberships in many professional associations and organizations through his long career, including Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity, Omicron Delta Kappa Honor Society, the Rotary Club of Baton Rouge, and the U.S. Army Reserve in which he served from 1957-1963. Pat was honored by numerous awards and recognitions during his distinguished career. Among those, he was president of the Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity Alumni Board of LSU, and president of the Louisiana Chapter of FBI National Academy Associates. An avid sportsman, hunter and conservationist, Pat enjoyed the pleasures of the Louisiana outdoors. Pat is survived by his wife, Shelley Turner Bonanno; daughters, Leigh Bonanno, Blake and her husband Brandon Black, Brandin and her husband Kevin Brewer, and Bryan and her husband Matt Provenzano; six wonderful grandchildren, Taylor and Connor Dean, Patrick, Clayton, Kirby, and Stewart Black; and a great-granddaughter, Kaydence Dean. He is also survived by his mother, Tina Maranto Bonanno; sisters, Bonnie and her husband Doug East, and Carmen and her husband Don Scully; brother, Gary and his wife Laura Bonanno; and a much loved extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Vincent Bonanno. Visiting at Rabenhorst Funeral Home, 825 Government St., on Sunday, Oct. 7, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Monday, Oct. 8, from 9 a.m. until funeral Mass at 11 a.m. at St. Aloysius Catholic Church. Pallbearers will be Brandon Black, Matt Provenzano, Kevin Brewer, Taylor Dean, Connor Dean and Robert Sinclair. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to your chosen charity, McMains Children's Developmental Center, or to Hospice of Baton Rouge, whose support and care was invaluable to Pat and his family.
