
A native of Clarksdale, Miss., she was born Dec. 11, 1918, and was a longtime resident of Baton Rouge. She passed away at her home on Sunday, Oct. 21, 2007, at 3:30 a.m. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 65 years, Verdie Reece Perkins. She was a graduate of LSU School of Music. Playing the piano, singing and composing music were lifelong passions. She was a member of the Novel Club, Daughters of the American Revolution, St. Francisville Garden Club and a founding member of the Foundation for Historical Louisiana. She was preceded in death by her parents, Laura Pleasants Moore and Dr. Eugene Overton Moore; brother, Eugene Overton Moore II; and son, Edward Overton Perkins. She is survived by a daughter, Lauradel Perkins; daughter, Peggy Perkins David and her husband Donald; niece, Peggy Moore Eldridge, her husband, Gordon, and their daughter, Celia; nephew, Eugene Overton Moore III, his wife, Marilyn, and their son, Eugene Overton "Pal" Moore IV; three granddaughters, L'Reece David Butcher and her husband, Ron, Rebecca Moore David Paradise and her husband, Scott, and Rachael Blake David; and five great-grandchildren, Sarah Reece Levine, Melissa Blake Levine, Marjorie Faith Sanford, Leon Auguste Sanford and Georgia Kate Paradise. Pallbearers will be Donald David, Overton Moore III, Gordon Eldridge, Ron Butcher, Scott Paradise and Eugene Overton "Pal" Moore IV. Honorary pallbearers are Pendery Gibbens, Benton Aucoin, Paul Haygood, Sonny Sykes, John Barton, Judge Frank Polozola and Dr. Gene Berry. The family would like to thank her wonderful caregivers, Mary Mills, Isola Williams and Carey Stevenson for their special love and kindness. We know she is in the arms of the love of her life, Verdie Reece Perkins, once again, reunited in the presence of God, and is at peace. Visitation on Thursday, Oct. 25, at Trinity Episcopal Church, 3552 Morning Glory Ave., from 2 p.m. until funeral service at 3 p.m. Interment in Roselawn Memorial Park.
