

Peggy A. Winters, age 76, passed away peacefully on Friday, September 16, 2016 at The Village Healthcare at the Glen in Shreveport, Louisiana. Born in Fairfield, Alabama, she was a long time resident of Baton Rouge. Peggy was a member of Comite Baptist Church. A lifelong learner and proponent of education, Peggy earned two nursing degrees as a non-traditional student. She was honored to serve as president of her class when she graduated from the Baton Rouge Medical Center School of Nursing in 1987. She loved obstetric nursing and worked at Woman’s Hospital for over 20 years. She provided couplet care through Woman’s Family Birthing Center during the first 10 years and worked as a nursing supervisor in the latter years. She retired early to care for her sweetheart as his health declined. She is survived by four children, daughters Tracy Pourciau and husband Chuck Pourciau, and Kelly Byers and her husband John Byers; sons Michael Winters and his wife Faith Winters, and Mark Winters; grandchildren Jessica Dupuy, Casey Richards and husband Stephen Richards, Leigh Pourciau Topp, and Lara Winters; great grandchildren, Breanne Dupuy, Aaron Richards, and William Richards. Her husband of 55 years, William A. Winters, Jr., parents, Minnie and William Clarence Atchley, and son, Joel David Winters, precede her in death. Family and friends are invited to attend the visitation that will be held on Wednesday, September 21, 2016 from 10 am to 1 pm at Fellowship Baptist Church, 14512 Greenwell Springs Road, Greenwell Springs, LA. Funeral services will begin at 1 pm, following the visitation.
