
Tommie Eugene "Tom" Arceneaux Ph.D., born January 30, 1936 in Houma, died Monday March 4 at the Butterfly Wing of Baton Rouge General Hospital. A lifelong educator, he taught thousands of East and West Baton Rouge Parish students, many of whom participated each year and won many awards in the Louisiana Social Studies Fair. He also taught in Pass Christian, Mississippi; Belleglade, Florida; and at St. Mathew's Episcopal School in Houma. After retiring he served as a substitute teacher, taught hunter safety for the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries and was a docent at the Baton Rouge Zoo. He is survived by his wife of 43 years Mary Kathleen Brian Arceneaux; niece Mary Elizabeth Arceneaux (Fernand) Dionne of Metairie; nephews George Arceneaux III (Lynn) of Lafayette and Robert (Jill) of Katy, Texas; and five great nieces and great newphews. Funeral services will be held 11 AM on Saturday March 9 at University United Methodist Church preceded by visitation at 10 at the church. Rev Dr J Philip Woodland and Rev Carol Civils will conduct the services. Interment will be at Roselawn Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to University United Methodist Church or Cat Haven.
