
A professor of education at LSU and resident of Baton Rouge, he died Monday, Nov. 22, 2010. He was 71, born June 22, 1939, in Chicago. Visiting at Rabenhorst Funeral Home, 825 Government St., Friday, Nov. 26, from noon until religious service at 2 p.m., conducted by the Rev. Young. Interment in Resthaven Gardens of Memory. Survived by his wife of 40 years, Dr. Doreen Maxcy; son, Spencer O. Maxcy; daughter, Dr. Colleen Maxcy and husband Justin Pelkey; newborn granddaughter, Brooke Pelkey; and brother, Paul Maxcy and wife Barbara. Preceded in death by his parents, Spencer Thomas Maxcy and Marian Adelle Davis. During his 33 years in LSU's College of Education, Dr. Maxcy authored 13 books, more than 75 referred articles and was an invited speaker at meetings on three continents. He sought through his teachings and writings to help educators more clearly understand how ethical issues need to underscore their decision-making process within schools for the betterment of our children and society. He received his Ph.D. from Indiana Unitversity, M.A. from Loyola University in Chicago and a B.A. from Blackburn College. Maxcy taught ethics, philosophy and history of education in LSU's College of Education for 33 years.
