Ralph Caplan

He is survived by his daughters, Holly Caplan (Abraham Elhiany) and Allyson Chargois (Keith Chargois); granddaughters Amanda Phares (Thomas Phares) and Stella Koufos; and great-grandson Thomas Phares.

Ralph was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 61 years, Leonie “Lee” Lampert Caplan. Together, Ralph and Lee traveled the world, built businesses, supported organizations they cared about, and—most importantly—created lifelong friendships.

A proud LSU and Southeastern Louisiana University graduate, Ralph also served on active duty in the U.S. Army Band as a young man. He was a visionary and entrepreneur who began his career selling Olivetti typewriters before recognizing the coming digital age. He went on to build Office Automation, Inc., serving as its president for 27 years before retiring after 45 years in the office equipment industry.

Ralph lived a life full of adventure and passion. He was a professional drummer, world traveler, avid golfer, accomplished swimmer, entrepreneur, and devoted friend. He loved playing second lines through the French Quarter with his band, Dr. Jazz, traveling the world with Lee, and spending time with the people he loved.

But above all else, Ralph was “Dad” to Holly and Allyson, “Poppy” to his grandchildren and great-grandson, and a beloved brother-in-law, friend, and family member. His legacy lives on in the countless lives he touched and the memories he created.

As Ralph would say, “And away we go!”
