
Ray Helen Ricard Templewas born in Chenal (now Rougon), LA on November 9, 1929. She was the firstborn of four children of Joseph Willie Joseph Ricard and Melodie Amar Ricard. She died on July 27, 2012 at Baton Rouge General Hospital-Mid City Campus. She was a graduate of McKinley High School, Class of 1946, and received a bachelor's degree from Southern University and a master's degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She also did further study at Louisiana State University and Southern University in counselor education. Ray Helen Ricard became Mrs. Frederick Temple on December 27, 1951 at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Baton Rouge. Beginning in 1950, Ray Helen's professional job was that of elementary teacher and later counselor in several public schools of East Baton Rouge Parish. She retired in 1982. Ray Helen was a thoughtful, caring, poised individual who cherished her family. She was very religious and particularly enjoyed practicing her faith. She was a member of the Immaculate Conception Rosary Group and was a participant in numerous church activities. She was also a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority. Visitation will be held at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 1565 Curtis St., Baton Rouge, on Friday, August 3, 2012 from 9-10:30 am with a rosary at 10:30 and a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am. Interment will follow at Southern Memorial Gardens. Ray Helen leaves to cherish her memories her husband of 61 years, Dr. Frederick Charles Temple; her daughter, Myra Alison Temple of Pleasanton, CA; her son, Dr. Doyle Anthony Temple of Hampton, VA; four grandchildren, Laurence Anthony Temple of Lorton, VA, Janet Temple Jackson of Hampton, Valerie Michelle Temple and Melissa Renee Temple, both of Newport News, VA; four great-grandchildren, Jerel Jackson, Selena Jackson, Joseph Temple and Jor-El Puryear; sisters, Dr. Myrtly Ricard Joyner of Baton Rouge and Natalie Marie Ricard of Los Angeles, CA; nieces, Carole Ann Temple Dickey and husband Dudley of Sun City, AZ and Deborah Dandridge of Topeka, KS; sister- in-law, Dorothy Porche Ricard of Fremont, CA, other loving nieces and nephews, many dear cousins and enduring friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Charles McFarland Ricard, grandparents, aunts, uncles, and other relatives.
