
Rebecca "Becky" Noel Baker Mai, a lifelong resident of Baton Rouge, passed away Thursday, Dec. 1, 2011, at St. Joseph Hospice after a long battle with cancer. Born Dec. 28, 1946, Rebecca was the youngest of four children. She graduated from Baton Rouge High School in 1964, after which she began work as an insurance adjuster with Travelers Insurance. Later, she worked for the Office of Group Benefits. She valued family above all and provided a constant source of entertainment and wit. She was preceded in death by her mother, Hortense A. Baker; father, Peyton C. Baker; sister, Mary B. Scott; and brother, Claiborne Baker. She is survived by her husband, Norbert Mai; daughters Mary Ellen and Emily Mai; brother, Joe Baker and wife Nancy; sister-in-law, Jeanette Baker; and five nieces, two nephews, and nine great-nieces and nephews. A memorial service is planned for Saturday, Dec. 3, at Rabenhorst Funeral Home East, 11000 Florida Blvd., at 11 a.m. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Honorary pallbearers are Chris Baker, Andy Baker, Kenneth Gardner, John Corban, Joe LeBlanc, and Ryan Sanders.
