
The Rev. Timothy Kerner, C.Ss.R., 54, a native of New Orleans and resident of Baton Rouge, died at home in his sleep Saturday, Oct. 10, 2009. He was director of Pastoral Care at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center. Prior to his assignment as director of pastoral care, he was director of Holy Redeemer Retreat Center in Lacombe, chaplain at LSU Earl K. Long Medical Center and pastor of St. Gerard Majella Catholic Church in Baton Rouge. While attending St. Alphonsus School in New Orleans, he received his calling. He first professed his vows on July 25, 1976, and was ordained as a Redemptorist priest on June 13, 1981. He is survived by his parents, Ronald J. and Yvonne M. Kerner; sisters, Carol K. Becnel and husband Oscar R. Becnel, Susan K. Ponthieux and husband Gary J. Ponthieux, Mary K. Guillory, and Inez K. Dubroc and husband Martin L. Dubroc; brothers, Michael A. Kerner and wife Carolyn W. Kerner, and Thomas J. Kerner and wife Lori M. Kerner; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. Visitation at St. Gerard Majella Church, 5354 Plank Road, on Thursday, Oct. 15, from 9 a.m. until a Mass at noon.
