Rev. Than Vu

Rev. Than N. Vu, Vicar General, S.T.L., Diocese of Baton Rouge and Pastor of St. Aloysius Church, passed away at 2:04 a.m. on 28 January 2015 at his residence, at the age of 56. Born in Saigon, Vietnam, on 4 May 1958, he arrived with his family as boat people in Baton Rouge in 1975. Ordained a priest on 21 July 1984 by Bishop Stanley J. Ott for the Diocese of Baton Rouge, he served as parochial vicar at the parishes of St. Jean Vianney, Immaculate Conception (Denham Springs), St. Theresa of Avila (Gonzales), and Christ the King, and as pastor of the parishes of St. Patrick, Christ the King, and St. Aloysius. He was preceded in death by his parents Kiet Vu and Hue Mai, and by his sister Maria Nguy Vu. He is survived by his sister Maria Huyen Pham and her husband Thao, his brother Phien Vu and his wife Tram; his nieces and nephews Nguyen Vu, Hanh&Matthew Rimmer, Tuan&Allison Pham, Peter&Elizabeth Pham, Vy Vu, Van&Heather Vu, Van Thuy Vu, Van Tu Vu, Van Ha Vu; his great nieces and nephews Tia&Skylar Monjure, Addison&Anne Pham, Emme&James Pham, Julian Summers&Hien Hammond&Kien Spiller, and Jack&John&Julia Thien-Kim Vu. A vigil prayer service and visitation will be held at Christ the King on 30 January 2015 from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. and at St. Aloysius Catholic Church on 31 January 2015 from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. The funeral Mass will be on 31 January 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Aloysius Catholic Church presided by the Most Reverend Robert W. Muench, Bishop of Baton Rouge. Interment will be at Roselawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Diocese of Baton Rouge, P.O. Box 2028, Baton Rouge, LA 70821-2028. Fr.
