

Rhonda Kathleen Spikes Pete Brown entered into God's care Thursday, Sept. 2, 2010, at the age of 50. Visitation at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Baton Rouge, on Thursday, Sept. 9, from 10 a.m. until Mass at 11 a.m. Burial in Greenoaks Memorial Park. Rhonda is survived by her husband, Flamong "Flame" L. Brown; daughter, Bianca Christina Margaret Pete; son, Bronson Christopher Lawrence Pete; stepson, JaQuel L. Brown; mother, Dolores Margaret Richard Spikes, Ph.D.; mother-in-law, Donna Phyliss White; grandmother-in-law, Eva White; three aunts, Ann Clark Richard Fenelon and spouse Robert, Elizabeth "Bessie" Richard Bellaire, and Vera "Jane" Dansby and spouse Arthur; brothers-in-law, Tiran White and Kesson Turner; sister-in-law, Ashea Turner; six close cousins whom she grew up with, Gaylyn Elizabeth Bellaire, Marlene P. Domingue, Gina Bellaire Williams, Morris Richard Clark Sr. and spouse Shauna, Scott Christopher Clark and spouse Toronda, and Carl Glenn Jones and spouse Lucille; and a host of other cousins; godchild, Braxton Scott; and close friends, Aria Scott and Wanda Pass. Among the many students at Southern University that her family helped and became "big" sisters to Rhonda are Dr. Betty Reese Wienhoff and Dorothy Reese Smart. She was preceded in death by her father, Hermon Spikes; 11 paternal uncles and aunts; a special uncle, Henry Joseph Bellaire; grandparents, Lawrence and Margaret Patterson Richard, and David and Della McBride Spikes. Pallbearers will be Carl Glenn Jones, Ryan Bailey, Marlon Patin, Braxton Scott, Dedrick Greggs, Eric Blackmore, Ramonte White and Tiran White. Honorary pallbearers are Scott Christopher Clark, Morris Richard Clark and the Redemptorist High School football team and coaches, including head coach Guy Mistretta and defensive line coach Blaine Burns. Rhonda was a former commissioner for the town of Princess Anne, Md., and a former teacher of nursing assistants in Maryland, all of whom became certified nurse assistants. She was well-regarded in the nursing field for her work in nursing care, pediatrics and geriatrics. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. Rhonda had a great love for all animals and she loved to dance, do crafts and decorate. She graduated from Southern University Laboratory School, where she was a majorette and Miss Southern High during her senior year. She received two degrees from Southern University at Baton Rouge: a bachelor of science in animal science and a BSN from the Southern University School of Nursing. Between these two degrees she worked at Southern University in the College of Agriculture, where she was involved in reports and presentations emanating from her participation in research.
