

Richard Dykes, native of Montpelier, La. and resident of Baton Rouge, La. passed away on Monday, July 6, 2015 at the age of 66. Richard attended Southeastern Louisiana University and was also a veteran of the Navy. He was the owner of George’s Place since 1988; a member of the Krewe of Apollo, and the first Grand Marshall of Baton Rouge Gay Pride. He was a member of First United Methodist Church and Pine Grove United Methodist Church. He was a philanthropist of his community and will be missed by all who knew him. A loving partner, son, brother, and uncle, Richard is survived by his partner of 36 years, Guy Schmieder; mother, Elizabeth “Betty Jo” Young Dykes; brother, Tommy Glyn Dykes; nieces, Chansley Dykes, Kelly Dykes Hoover her spouse and children: Carson and Caleb; sister, Sherri Lynn Dykes Reardon; her daughter, Haley Reardon Hicks and her spouse and 3 children: Finley, Timmy, and Harper; caregivers, Dot Sibley, Chris Taylor, Jr., and Patricica Brumfield; sister-in-law, Jean Freiler; cousin, Billie Claire Tycer, and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and dear friends. He is preceded in death by his father, Herbert Thomas “Tag” Dykes and paternal and maternal grandparents. Visitation will be held at Greenoaks Funeral Home, 9595 Florida Blvd. Baton Rouge, La. 70815 on Wednesday, July 8, 2015 at 9AM until funeral service beginning at 12PM. Interment will be held at Pine Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery, 3335 Hwy 449 S. Pine Grove, La. at 2pm. Services conducted by Rev. Gary Schmieder of Knoxville, TN.
